Job description

We have partnered with a high-growth SaaS business that is scaling its engineering function and needs a senior leader to help define what it becomes. The product is live, the customer base is expanding and the business is at an inflection point where engineering leadership will directly shape the trajectory of the next few years. This is not a role for someone who wants to manage from a distance. You will be close to the architecture, close to the product and close to the people building it.

This role suits a technically credible leader who has grown into senior management without losing their instinct for what good engineering looks like. You will set the direction, own the culture and build a function that ships great product at scale, consistently.

About the role:

  • Own the engineering function end to end, setting the technical direction, delivery standards and team culture as the business scales
  • Lead and develop a cross-functional engineering organisation responsible for building and evolving the core customer-facing platform
  • Partner with the CEO, Product and broader leadership team to align engineering capacity and capability with commercial priorities
  • Define and embed engineering best practices across architecture, code quality, testing, security and operational reliability
  • Drive hiring strategy and build out the engineering team, attracting and retaining strong talent as the company grows
  • Own key architectural and platform decisions, balancing long-term scalability with the pace demands of a growth-stage business
  • Create an environment where engineers do their best work, with clear progression, strong feedback culture and genuine investment in development

About you:

  • Proven track record as a Head of Engineering, VP Engineering or senior Engineering Manager ready to step up, within a product-led SaaS environment
  • Technically credible with a strong engineering background and the ability to contribute meaningfully to architectural and platform decisions
  • Experienced leading and scaling engineering teams through periods of significant growth
  • Skilled at operating across both the strategic and the operational, comfortable in a board-level conversation and a technical design review in the same day
  • Strong track record of partnering with Product to ship high-quality, customer-facing features at pace
  • Clear, direct communicator who can align engineering, product and business stakeholders around a shared direction
